I've Got a Secret
1952-1967
In the wake of the popularity of What's My Line? panel gameshows sprang up like post-war
tract housing. One of the most successful was I've Got a Secret. Although the premise was much like
What's My Line? where the panel would try to guess something about a person (though not just limited to occupations), I've Got a Secret was less stuffy and often had the contestant demonstrating an ability or showing off something. The celebrity guest would also have a stunt of some kind going on ending in the panel performing some feat or the host ending up in some precarious situation. In all, I've Got a Secret was one of the flashier, more
entertaining gameshows of the '50s and '60s. |
The original host was Garry Moore. He was a famous
television personality known for his rubber-leg dance. When Garry left the
show he was replaced by the legendary Steve Allen.
Although the panel varied slightly from the beginning, there were six regular
members throughout its run.
- Bill Cullen: (second from the left) Original host of the Price is Right and other
gameshows.
- Henry Morgan: (far right) Radio personality and comic. (Note: he's not Harry Morgan)
- Jayne Meadows: Wife of Steve Allen and sister to Honeymooners star Audrey
Meadows.
- Faye Emerson: Star of stage and screen.
- Betsy Palmer: (far left) Young and pretty actress now known now for playing Jason
Vorhees's mother.
- Bess Myerson: (second from right) Former Miss America.

Ok, I'm totally blown away. I finally got around to googling for information on the show and found dozens of pages with real, incredibly detailed information on the show. They had all sorts of things like tv guide covers and promotional pictures and behind the scenes information. So if you really want to know a lot more about the show (or any other gameshows) I suggest you try here. I'll still be adding my meager cast information and showing some of the activities from the show, but my info comes entirely from observation of the ones they're showing on Game Show Network (all pictures here are captured by myself from the tv). So, by all means, check out the other sites if you like what you see here. I have a feeling the "Guess the celebrity" is going to be the biggest feature of this part of the site.
