Aoyama Goushou

          |      Aoyama Goushou (青山剛昌) was born on June
21st, 1963 in Tottori prefecture (鳥取県). Judging from his comics, Aoyama
likes soccer, the Yakult Giants (think Yankees), and detective novels.
He made his debut as an artist in Sunday in 1986. Aoyama has different
types of comics including Sports; Action; and his most famous, detective.
He had success with his first major series YAIBA, which was obviously
influenced by early Dragonball. Takayama Minami, the voice actress
who played Yaiba (she also played Nabiki on Ranma 1/2, Kiki
in Kiki's Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便), and is the singer for Two-Mix),
impressed Aoyama so much he wrote his current and wildly popular Detective
Conan specifically with her in mind. Conan has spawned a continuing
tv series, a yearly movie, and a second manga series (by a differnt
author). Aoyama is very involved in the movies drawing cells for key
scenes and designing characters. He insists that the Detective Boys
(the equivalent of Shelock Holmes's Baker Street Irregulars) be present
in every movie. Although not much biographical information is avialable
in his books I think this tells it all: when asked by a fan what he
would do if he were turned into a kid like Conan,
Aoyama replied: "I'd take a bath with Ran." Shine on, Aoyama-sensei!
