Border Bride

In a nutshell: Former serving boy with high ambitions runs into his old love (and mistress), a widow living with 3 children on the uncertain border of Wales and England. She's eager to keep him from finding out they had a son together, thus endangering the stability of her family.

Plot Analysis: The quintessential conflict between the wandering male and the female looking for him to settle down to provide for children.

Heroine evaluation: overprotective, stubborn mother who has been trying to forget the passionate girl inside her.

Hero evaluation: Restless tactician, trying to prove to everyone he's not the worthless boy he thinks he is.

Best Part: Learning about Welsh culture throughout the book.

Worst Part: I'm pretty sure this is a wool dying manual with characters thrown in.

Titillation factor: 2, backed by a lot of build up, but not much to it actually

Reading level: 5, so much Welsh that I'm just guessing what the book was really about

Overall: 4, if you're looking for erotica, this harlequin doesn't live up to its name. If you want to know more about the daily lives of lower-ranking Welsh lords living on the border of England during the rocky transition from Norman to Plantagenet rule in England, you have a solid winner.
