Also, that broken feeling many Europeans had after WW1. But most surprising to me, and it really shouldn’t have been, was the antisemitism that was prevalent not just in Germany’s pre-WW2 society, but apparently England too. Whenever talk comes of the lowest possible kind of person Jews are always mentioned. Ouch. I guess there really was something to that obscenity trial- they just picked the wrong thing. Not that I think any sort of obscenity should be censored, but some is inherently more offensive.
